Where do you go with your disappointments? When the details of life don’t work out the way you’d like and the road stretches out long and lonely ahead?
Me? I head straight to filling in the blanks. Trying to mentally map out Plan B because I like to know the plan. I like to see things in advance. Of course, the problem is God holds out on the details sometimes. Many times, actually.
Yesterday, I had a detour. Nothing monumental but a disappointment nonetheless. Plans canceled. Provisions blurred. And while my first inclination was to take my disappointment to my husband, My Utmost for His Highest was sitting close. So I picked up and read …
Fill your mind with the thought that God is there.
And once your mind is truly filled with that thought, when you experience difficulties it will be as easy as breathing for you to remember, “My heavenly Father knows all about this!” This will be no effort at all, but will be a natural thing for you when difficulties and uncertainties arise. Before you formed this concept of divine control so powerfully in your mind, you used to go from person to person seeking help, but now you go to God about it. Jesus is laying down the rules of conduct for those people who have His Spirit, and it works on the following principle: God is my Father, He loves me, and I will never think of anything that He will forget, so why should I worry?
It wasn’t at all instantaneous for me (I reread it 4 times) … but I did sigh and release my previous plan to God. Then I thanked Him for the disappointment. And I asked Him to handle the details.
I’m a slow learner but I’m getting there: Filling in the blanks with His promise instead of my plans.
Praying that you’ll lean into His promise, too.

You always know just what to say when I need to hear it. I have had a lot of huge detours this year and its easy to turn to God with those but the little daily dissapoints are tough sometimes because I feel they are trivial to him. I appreciate all that you do and thank you for reminding me to give everything to God. Your an amazing talent and I’m glad to call you friend.

Susie, I read that yesterday too. God has been teaching me this VERY intently this year. It sure is more peaceful when I DON’T fill in the blanks, but instead lean on Him knowing He was not surprised and HE has THE plan!! I feel like I’m a slow learner too, but leaning on Him for help.
