enough stuff … free starbucks card

There are days all I want to do is sit around in my pj’s and sip coffee. Then maybe wander in the backyard and take pretty pictures. Today was one of those days.

Tired from weekend (Will and I taught all 3 weekend services at church), it took everything I had to get myself going. As I was doing house chores this morning, I stumbled across things I’d love to gift in this 31 days of enough (… and you get free stuff) series. Clothes, fragile trinkets, jewelry, etc. I’ve got stuff. This I know.

But lately, more than anything, I’ve just wanted to do something for you. More than handing over a something-er-other. In the last few weeks, I’ve wished to be more personal. I’ve wished you lived next door so I could make you a big batch of muffins and talk to you across the table.

And it was like a womp on the head. One more realization that stuff just doesn’t cut it in relationships. Whether it’s a family member or a next door neighbor or you, my blog reading friend.

Stuff. is. just. stuff.

Stuff can be nice and all but it does nothing as a substitute for sharing the deeper things. The greater things. The God things.

I thought about that a lot today.

In this final week of enough … I’m going to stick with my promise of gifting free stuff … but it’s going to be a simple something. Just a little Starbucks card loaded up with five bucks and Will’s book (which is what got me started on this whole journey), Enough: Finding More by Living with Less.

To enter to win, all you do is respond in the comment section. And then I’ll draw one name every day and send them all out this Saturday. Just a small way to say thank you for spending time here, reading and commenting. I really do appreciate you.

For today’s $5.00 Starbucks card and book, tell me what refuels you when you’re super tired and just want to hang out in your pj’s all day? I’d love to know!

  1. Though I am at home most of the time and bedridden most of the time due to life threatening spinal tumors.. I still long for those hang out in your pjs days… meaning, through all the cares-medical and otherwise- and details and financial worries aside, and just rest…. relax…. trust… walk in faith…laugh… on those very very rare days of throwing it all to the wind, I would love to have a tall, tall mug of my fave flavored coffee, a large bowl of plain organic popcorn, a warm fuzzy blanket, a some great Christian movies… then a long much needed nap! I also love a great cup of herbal teas and a tall cup of vanilla Chai Latte!
But when that’s not possible, the other thing I long for as I totally refresh there, is a short walk at the seaside… right at the waters edge…. and then sitting in the sand and looking out over the sea and feeling the ocean spray on my face, and the wind through my hair…and thanking God for each breath He gives me! Now that’s an awesome day!

  2. When I am just exhausted and can’t go any more, I just have to be a bum and sit, veg out, watch tv, read, sleep, sleep, sleep until my battery recharges.

  3. Bobbie says:

i usually stay in my PJs all day!!

  4. Reading a really good memoir and taking a nap.

  5. Kerry says:

I’m one of those people who needs quiet time to myself in order to recharge. I am a teacher and mom and wife and gramma and friend, etc…. sometimes I just need to sit by myself Ina quiet area and have time to think, pray, read….

  6. Kathleen says:

Quiet time with my husband. We have two small boys that I stay home with (adding one more tomorrow morning), so time just to talk and relax is precious.

  7. Cindi says:

My wonderful circle of friends and a day out with them, is
what refuels me! Also, our Daisy Beagle makes me happy
    on a daily basis…
    Many thanks, Cindi

  8. Karin says:

Reading a good book, followed by a nap. That always makes me ready for whatever the rest of the day brings.

  9. Addie says:

what refuels me? Probably silence… just sitting and being still for a minute.

  10. Gwen Strybos says:

I refuel by just staying home. I don’t go anywhere and don’t do much of anything at home, except cook for my hardworking husband. I need peace and quiet, no tv. Oh, and a Diet Dr. Pepper!

  11. Martha Garner says:

When I’m really tired, stressed, or have just had ‘enough’, if I can find a few minutes to listen to some worship music (big fan of CastingCrowns, Jeremy Camp, Matt Redman) while reflecting on the many ways that God has blessed me and keeps blessing me, it always seems to re-energize me.

  12. Anna says:

Getting outside always helps me. Just moving in the fresh air.

  13. Cassie M. says:

Spending time with my Creator in prayer recharges my batteries, and coffee, of course. (-:

  14. Tammy Bass says:

You are an amazing lady Susie!! My calm is a few minutes in prayer. When my babies were babies… You remember… Never enough sleep, I would say a short prayer for just enough rest while my baby slept… And it was always enough! Now all it takes is for me to stop for 10 minutes to snuggle with my 3 year old or sit down and catch up with my 11 year old to feel refreshed. A nice quiet chat ( you noticed I said quiet!) with the hubby can help me reenergize. It is all about the calm around me in this crazy hectic world!

  15. valerie says:

When I’m super tired and just want to hang out in my pj’s all day, well, like Linda said, that’s about all that will refuel me! PJ’s, some yummy coffee, an indulgent dessert, good movie, and a loooong NAP! :) Thanks for this awesome series – it’s got me contemplating my own 31 days of getting rid of “stuff”.

  16. Tasha says:

Coffee is my go to pick me up if it’s a day that I have to get things done which is most days. I have just discovered International Delights Heath Bar Creamer. It is so good.

  17. Kelly says:

Decluttering recharges me. Setting the timer and seeing how much clutter I can clear in 15 minutes. I may or may not be in pjs while clearing said clutter. :)

  18. Lori h says:

amen about stuff! I recharge by having alone time (introvert here). Exercise too but that can be a hard sell :)

  19. Fran Bates says:

Susie what a treasure you are. You and Will were awesome this weekend. What recharges my battery is what you spoke about this weekend: Pure, true worship. Praising through music, dance and just being quiet before my Holy God.

  20. Sherri F. says:

I remember the people who count on me, and I get energized to move forward. Sometimes, I grab a yummy cup of coffee and take a break outside to view God’s handiwork and just breathe.

  21. Kimber-Leigh says:

And I appreciate your encouragement. Very much.
(And I love Earl Grey also … with a tiny bit of honey.)

  22. Linda Pupich says:

When I am super tired and just want to hang out in my pjs all day, I make a plan to do just that. It might not be that day, but knowing it is penciled in somewhere in my near future refreshes me and gives me something to look forward to. :) I am a firm believer in naps :)
