Many moons ago, I experienced homemade popovers for the first time. It was a pastry epiphany.

Soon thereafter, I rushed to the store to buy a popover pan so I could continue to make homemade popovers for my family. I bought two pans ~ and I have only ever used one.
So today, I am gifting the unused pan to you. Because popovers are fabulous. Everybody should have the chance to bake some at home ~ and pull them out of the oven fresh and delicious.
This giveaway is all part of a little something crazy I am doing this month. I’m joining over a thousand other women at Nesting Place by taking part in a 31 day series.
My month-long series is called:
31 days of enough … and you get free stuff
{I blame my husband & his book for all the madness}
Now, I really wish I could make this fail proof recipe and walk them next door to you.
Easy Ethereal Popovers
1 T unsalted butter (and extra for greasing the pan) * 2 large eggs * 1 cup flour * 1/2 t salt * 1 1/4 c milk
Preheat the oven to 450, and thoroughly grease the pan. Melt the tablespoon of butter and set it aside to cool slightly.
Break the eggs into a bowl and whisk gently. Then stir in the flour, salt, milk and melted butter until just barely blended; a few lumps are fine. (Note: At this point, we threw in a handful of grated cheddar cheese just for fun. It proved to be a good choice!!)
Fill the cups 2/3 to 3/4 full, and bake at 450 for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temp to 350 and bake an additional 20 minutes. (No peeking! Opening the oven door in the first 20 minutes can cause them to collapse.)
When they are brown and crusty, remove them from the oven, and make a small slit in their sides with a sharp knife. Serve immediately, or return to turned-off oven. Makes 6 to 10 popovers.
But since I can’t … I was thinking maybe if you win the pan, you could bake up a fresh batch and take them to your neighbors.
Wouldn’t that be a treat? For you, your neighbors (and for me :)?
To enter to win, answer this question:
What’s one of the nicest things your neighbors have done for you?
The rules for the whole month: 1) Only one entry per item. 2) You are eligible to win only one item a week. 3) No entries accepted after 5 pm on Fridays CST. 4) Winners must live in the contiguous United States. Weekly winners are announced on Saturdays on my blog. Please check your email promptly if you’re announced as a winner.

We let the guys use our lawnmover a few weeks ago since their lawn is rather large and their push mower broke- and they brought us a bottle of wine with a thank you note~! these are 6 recent college age guys who are all in grad school- needless to say we were very impressed
They gave me flowers on mother’s day!!!
Last year when we came back from vacation our neighbor had mowed our yard so we wouldn’t have to when we first returned home. He wasn’t going to tell us that he was the one who did it but his son spilled it to our daughter.
It was a lovely sight to come home to freshly cut grass instead of overgrowth!!

When I first bought my home in Lakewood subdivision in Austin, the welcoming committee brought the boys and I a “Welcome to the Neighborhood” plant. So very thoughtful. :) I now live in Wimberley in Paradise Hills and as a member of our HOA, that is something I am wanting to start doing for new residents. To our two newest neighbors, Michael and I have taken them over a mini cake from Sugar Shack Bakery saying “Welcome to the ‘hood”. Doing these kind of things make my heart smile. :) <3
Wow… I am sitting here reading the comments with tears in my eyes… The love that has been shown by neighbors is beautiful! My neighbor is a Pepperidge Farm supplier and he has supplied my 2 girls 6 and 5 with Goldfish (which they absolutely love)! I don’t think I have ever bought my own pack :) he has also given mommy some very yummy cookies too!
P.S. I am loving reading your blog…my husband has even started one now…
Wow this is a super easy question. Our neighbor clears the snow from our driveway and sidewalk everytime it snows. He not only does this — he does it early in the morning before we have driven over it. In addition we have a small breed dog that he clears a “potty” path for since she so easily gets buried in the snow. His wife has helped look for our dog when it got out. My husband is disabled and he has been right there every step of the way assisting with the things he knows are difficult for us. They are the sweetest, most authentic people I know.
Many years ago, our family female dog got “fixed” and we removed the cone of shame after the prescribed amount of time. This amount of time coincided with my husband’s fishing trip and also the time when the dog decided to pull her stitches out! I had five children at the time and was feeding one in his high chair, while another ran in crying to tell me our dog was going to die. I walked out on our back patio to find what looked like a war scene…it was horrific! Our sweet neighbor, a dog lover, herself, came to the rescue. She scooped up our two year old golden lab and took her to the pet hospital and took care of all of the details until I could gather my children and meet her there. She was so kind to this overwhelmed momma who didn’t have a clue what to do!
Most recently, I needed to get to a denist appointment and my 2 small children and my mother in law were all asleep at my house. So last minute I called my neighbor about 10 minutes before I needed to leave. My neighbor left her prayer group which was meeting at her house and drove me there and when I was done picked me up from the dentist so my family wouldn’t be disturbed. She had initially said no she couldn’t help but her prayer group said you can’t say no to tangibly serving God.
We have only been in this area for three years. When we first moved in, all the immediate neighbors brought food, pies, banana bread. I didn’t have to cook for three days! (and besides, I couldn’t find my pots and pans! lol)
It was so hard to leave our former home after 28 years. After all, our children had grown up there and were upset at first that mom and dad were gonna sell “their” house! lol
But, the neighbors are so friendly here and I am happy with my “new to me” house, with being near my only grandchild and best of all, my sister is just 45 minutes away! Whoo Hoo!

I have the BEST neighbor ever. She constantly does nice things for us, but most helpful in my life is she helps to take my 6 year old to and from school, to soccer practice, anywhere I need her to. She is a stay at home mom with 3 children of her own. I work full time 40 minutes from home. Without her, my son would be at school an hour before it opened, at a baby sitters after school, and couldn’t participate in sports right now because I couldn’t get him there on time. Whether or not she realizes it, she’s helping to give my child a childhood and allowed me to work without feeling guilty or that I am a terrible mother. I adore her and am so thankful for her.
You’re going to see how “in the country” we live with this answer…. once, when I was 8 months pregnant with our first child, and Rope was off at a rodeo somewhere, a giant black snake found his way into our home and slithered into my CLOSET!! At nearly midnight, a panicked, hormonal, freaked out woman (ME) had to call on my neighbors to come save the day. And they did….hacked that snake to death with a hoe, right there in my closet :)
Of course they “hacked that snake to death with hoe” right there in your closet … I LOVE Y’ALL!!!
I’m a townie with a country heart! ;)
a what-the-what kind of pan? yeah, i need to be educated! good gracious, they sound delish. since Ken’s been eating govt food over in Afghan for 12 months now, i’ve committed to try and find time to be a better/healthier chef (as much as i can with 1 and 2 yr olds), when he comes home next month. maybe popovers will help pave the way for this new life!?
the nicest thing a neighbor has done for me is pretty much feed me every night while our husbands were deployed back in ’03-’04. it was in cali when Ken and I were dating/engaged. i only had to feed myself and she had to feed her 3 children so i was pretty much invited for dinner every night just a few doors down. after a long day of work, and this being my first introduction to the Navy life, i was deeply moved by this and thought the Navy life would for sure be a charmed life. hmmm. some has been, some has not. but that friend, Erica, was a lifeline for me those 6 months and beyond. i am forever grateful for her being my neighbor back then and more importantly, still being a very good friend!
p.s. i am technically challenged and i don’t know how that has happened!? i don’t have a kindle or the like. can i get your e-diet/cookbook on my computer? i couldn’t find it on your website and i didn’t find it in a google search either.
Love this. I know you can’t wait til he gets home. :)

(Sorry you had trouble finding it!!)
One of our current neighbors brought us a gift bag when we got our first Foster Placement. At the time we had a 3 year old little girl and she brought over coloring books, play-doh, princess stuff. It was very nice.
I had the most wonderful neighbors growing up as a young girl in a suburb of Los Angeles. They took me on my very first camping trip because my folks were not outdoor people. It opened a whole new world for me and I loved the outdoors. So much so that when I went to college I followed that passion and got a degree in outdoor recreation. What if I had never gone on that first camping trip!Tthanks to Heeter Family!
One Spring a few years ago I was pining for a big veggie garden. Out of the blue, without his knowing this, my elder neighbor came by and ask my hubby if he would like for him to till a big garden spot for us. I was so delighted!
LOVE this …
I don’t think I’ve EVER had a popover! They look yummy and I would LOVE to try my hand at making them! :)
When my husband had cervical surgery, one set of neighbors mowed our lawn for a couple of weeks while another organized meals to be brought every other night for a week while my kids and I helped my husband to recover from surgery. The help was God-sent, and we were so blessed by it. Since then, we’ve been sure to pay it forward to our friends in their time of need. :)
When my mom passed away, two of my neighbor ladies offered to make all of the food for lunch after the funeral, and had my house cleaned and ready for guests. Both have moved away and I cried big tears watching the moving trucks pull away.
My neighbor saw me trying to build a new flower bed around a tree in the front yard.. took the shovel and knocked it out until it was at the point for me to do the fun part.. plant the flowers… This neighbor also came running out after midnight and stopped/detained a car full of young men who had taken the corner too fast, turfed my yard and were about to take off until the police showed up… GREAT neighbor!
When we were new to the neighborhood we had an emergency happen in the middle of the night (my daughter fell and her knee cap was very displaced, yuck). When the fire trucks pulled up, my neighbor came outside and offered any help, even offered to stay with our younger child if we needed to both go to the ER. Gave me a real warm feeling :)
My neighbor built a bridge over a drainage creek between our homes so we could easily go back & forth.
