I bet Bob Goff was a rowdy child. Because he’s a pretty rowdy adult.
Last night, Bob spoke to a group of us at Young Life Northwest Austin’s Round Up. He talked about a lot of things: parades, balloons, children in Uganda. About waking up in the morning and loving God and taking action. Because, as Bob explains, Love Does.

I was so thrilled to hear Bob (and tickled to discover he jumped in Town Lake at 1 am in morning with a bunch of college-aged kids ~ my daughter included!) that I wanted to share him with you. So for today’s giveaway, I’m going to gift 5 copies of Bob’s book to 5 of you.
To enter to win Bob’s book (which I haven’t read yet but.cannot.wait!), tell me what’s the nicest thing someone has done for you in the past 2 weeks …
(And hey, I’ll even start. Last week, when my husband walked off the plane and left me baffled and bawling, the kindest flight attendant discreetly handed me a box of chocolate and gave me the sweetest smile. Which made me cry even harder. It’s the little things. Yes?)
I guess it might be good to say, that in this 31 days of enough … I’m not trying to just dump stuff. I’m trying to love God ~ and you. I’m trying to take action (like Bob describes it) cannonball style. Running, tucking, jumping and splashing into the pool for Jesus. Yep, feeling a little out there and exposed but entirely certain: I’m doing this thing. And I’d love you to join me.
Dive in and enter freely. Or gracious sakes, start gifting your own stuff away. :)

My mom sent me some money for groceries.. very unexpected and gracious of her :)
The teacher that I volunteer for at lunch gave me a huge bear hug and whispered “You were made to work with children” after a presentation I gave on my recent trip. It was the best compliment and meant a lot!
My husband came home early from work and brought me and our two girls milkshakes!
Several friends have offered to watch my children, ages 5 and 2, for me, to allow me to have some ‘mommy time’. As a single parent, that means so much to me.
A small group of neighbors (all women in a recently formed book club) had a going away dinner for me last night! They all signed a card, got me flowers and made a giant brownie in the shape of Texas with a card on it that said “the lone star state will sure be lonely without you.” :)
A very special thank-you note received from a friend!
My brother came to visit and mowed my lawn, trimmed trees, and aired up my golf cart tires.
Was very thankful for it all to be done!!
I got a much needed hug and encouragement from someone that I least expected it from. The timing was just right.
My mother in law kept my daughters for the weekend so my husband and I could attend a conference with my husband.
My husband of 22 years bought me an engagement ring to go with my wedding band. It was very thoughtful and much more appreciated now that he could afford it. He is not much of a gift giver so when he does, it makes a big impression.
About a week ago I dropped off my hot rollers at my friend Jessica’s house so her daughter could do her hair for the Anderson Band show at the football game. At six last while I was getting ready for the Young Life meeting in Austin, I decided I’d really like to use those hot rollers. So, Jessica drove them to my house returning them in the same shopping bag and when I went to heat them up, there was a note that said, “you are always there for us! Thank you!”.
That just melted my heart.
And regarding Bob Goff last night he was awesome!!!!! If I don’t win a book from you this week I’m just gonna have to buy one!
Goodness…. whay am I having such a hard time thinking of things. I realize I need to slow down and look for signs of kindnessexpressed to me and write them down so I’ll remember…. after much thought… the past two weeks:
1. My secretary told me my makeup looked good (Ive been watching Youtube videos about how to apply it better and using more);
2. My co-teacher at Sunday School told me she had been thinking of me all week;
3. My friend texts on Friday night to see how I made it through the work week;
4. My husband goes back out (late) to Walmart for flea spray for the dog.
Fall is my favorite season. At Worship this past Sunday, I saw the most adorable little pumpkin, it was made of fabric with a leaf pattern, with fall foliage on top, and the best part of all – it was “squishy”! :-) One of my friends walked by and had similar fabric in her hands, so I asked her if she had made it and she told me another friend of ours had actually made it. When I saw the second friend, I picked up the pumpkin and gave it a big hug and told her how cute I thought it was. Monday morning, this friend showed up at my office with the huggable pumpkin and told me it was her gift to me. She received a big hug in return! :-)
Nicest thing……..hubby sat me down and cooked dinner for the family while I enjoyed some time reading!
Ok Susie, just because Will “messed” with you and now you are gifting amazing goodies, doesn’t mean you needed to “mess” with me!:)lol…you have been an inspiration to me since we first met this past summer at WRR. So now, I’m following your lead and “purging and gifting” some of my goodies!!
Anyways, a friend just today suggested that I listen to a Focus on the Family broadcast on Practical parenting advice for strong-willed children…wow…amazing timing and a gift I needed!
Love you!
Love you, too!!
PS. You’ve been ‘gifting goodies’ since June when you gave me your copy of Streams in the Desert. :)
the nicest thing this week was when my two teenage girls who are often at odds and full of drama worked together to make me dinner.
Nicest thing this week: my husband did all the cleaning and grocery chores so I could catch up on some big work projects.
My husband and I are taking a financial peace university class. He works very hard every day and after doing our 1st 0 based budget we saw there was no money for entertainment or basically anything “fun”. We were both very disappointed but throughout the night he kept smiling and being sweet. I felt like just because we were financially broke didn’t mean our relationship was broke :). It’s amazing what a little smile and affection can do.
The nicest things someone did for me in the last two weeks is offer to pay for me to go back to school to get my RN – as a gift, free and clear!! I’m starting in January :)
… wow!
I borrowed Love Does from our library’s digital loan system. Good stuff! And I read Will’s post. I’ll be praying for you two. I get it. My hubby had a heart attack last October, and has been dealing with some pretty severe anxiety since January. Had to quit his job, hospital bills piling up. Anyway. The nicest thing someone has done for me? Surprised us with some delicious groceries.
I did not know that. But I am praying to y’all. And I know so will many that read your post. And thank you for praying for us. We always need it. Much love and peace.
Two weeks ago tomorrow, I had surgery. So many people cared for me while I was recovering, I can’t hardly begin to list them all! I was so blessed by multiple selfless acts from my husband, mother, sister, mother-in-law and ladies from my small group.
