these boots are made for walkin’ … free stuff

The minute I thought of these boots languishing unused, I knew they were next. Yep, they’ve entered the free stuff zone here on my blog as I make my way through 31 days of enough (and you get free stuff).*

I’ve held onto these boots for over a year, just thinking magically they would finally fit. Or that my girls would wear them. And for over a year, they’ve been sitting in the dark wishing for a more important role in the big wide world. I imagine a more creative person could use these decorating a ranch or something. For sure they’d look great paired with jeans for some ‘cowboy’ themed event. And they’d even be fabulous making their way to a UT football game (down here in Austin, the girls even wear boots with shorts to the games ~ you know, we’re the University of Texas Longhorns. Hook’em!)

But I think what they really long for is a starring role with a real cowboy or cowgirl. ;)

Brief history of the boots:

  • purchased them off the movie set of Seven Days in Utopia (I miss Utopia …)
  • ’1984′ Tony Lama Company Inc. (style 90111)
  • black leather … what kind? I dunno, ask a cowboy.
  • size 7 ‘D’ (I wear a women’s 7 and they’re super roomie /too big for me)
  • sufficiently scuffed up by movie set experts so you won’t look like a ‘townie’ (my cowgirl friends at Cross Brand Cowboy Church introduced me to term ~kinda like a drugstore cowboy. Rest assured, wearing these will give you a smidge of cowboy cred as long as you don’t start feeling sorry for the ‘poor little steers’ at the team roping.)

To enter to win these Tony Lamas, tell me your favorite movie or book in which the characters wear cowboy boots.

I would have to say everyone mentioned good movies, but my ALL TIME favorite is Open Range! That movie is GREAT!!!!

  8. Cynthia says:

My dad has a big influence on my answer. Growing up we always watched Westerns together. I love anything with John Wayne in it but especially McClintock!, Big Jake and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon. My dad read every book by Louis L’Amour, and may still have his collection. It wasn’t until I was communting on the train to my job in Chicago that I borrowed one my dad’s dog-eared L’Amour books and grew to love this great American author, too. My daughter thinks my love of things Wayne and L’Amour is kind of silly but her first real pair of Western boots my change her opinion to endearing!

  9. Gwen Strybos says:

ANY movie with John Wayne, I especially loved the ones he did with Maureen O’Hara. He just personifies ‘COWBOY’!
    Giddy Up!

    Urban Cowboy!

  11. Cindy P says:

I just recently finished reading a book called “Fools Rush In” by Janice Thompson and it’s in a series called “Weddings by Bella” and it was so cute! The main character, Bella, is from a very large boisterous Italian family that runs a wedding facility/planning business living on Galveston Island and she meets and begins to fall in love with a cowboy. But the best part, she’s planning a cowboy themed wedding for a couple and everyone at the wedding wears cowboy boots and the whole Italian family wears them (and other cowboy/cowgirl attire) and they actually find it so much more comfortable than their designer heels and shoes. I thought it was great!

Shenandoah..goodness what a great movie. One of my beloved’s favorites so I’ve seen it many a time. Seven Days in Utopia…we had our two favorite couples over to watch it together the other night. Great movie…it would be fun to won a piece of movie memorabilia!

  13. Saving Winston, Buckaroo, The Summer of the Colt, The Long Shot, and of course, oldies like John Wayne Movies, Bonanza, and some more of the oldies!… all great movies with cowboy and cowgirl boots in ‘em! These boots are gorgeous… and I wear size 7!!! Would be a very fun win!! Even though I live in the south, we do use Cowgirl/cowboy boots… I bet no one knows that Florida is second in the country for ranches and cowboys!! .. that trivia shocked me when I moved here and heard that there was going to be a ranchers parade and rodeo route coming to Palm Beach!! I thought I was reading the wrong event bulletin! So I did my research. Ranch country runs through the middle of Florida as well as northwest FL.. Thanks for your generosity in gifting these boots!

  16. Lynn says:

Shenandoah. James Stewart. Saying the blessing over dinner. Explaining women to his future son-in-law. Arranging the delayed-wedding-night bed for his daughter and her husband. Talking to his late wife, Martha, at her grave. My kind of cowboy farmer.

  17. Lori H says:

I think someone wore boots in one of the Footloose movies? I am sure there are more but I can never remember that kind of thing on the spot :) Your boots are awesome, so count me in!

  18. Bethany says:

I think my favorite boot wearer is John Wayne. It reminds me of my father and his love for those movies.

  19. Lizette says:

*Love* those boots!! And I also loved Seven Days in Uptopia. My favorite cowboy movie is an oldie:I Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Paul Newman and Robert Redford…need I say more?? :)

  20. Traci Wood says:

Oh my goodness those are cute…I think my favorite movie with cowboy and cowgirl boots is Hope Floats!!! I’m a townie from California who now lives in Texas…we have 10 acres of land and at one time had 11 cows so maybe I can say I’m a cowgirl now :) oh and I have killed a copperhead so I think I can pass… Even though I screamed like a girl the whole time haha! Oh and I wear a size 7-7 1/2 so they would fit :)
