looking upward.

At this transition time in my family’s life, I am tempted to look back with longing and melancholy or forward with intense activity and busyness. But in doing either, I miss the celebration of today.

So in effort to keep proper perspective, a quote from one of my favorite authors with a picture from one of my favorite places …

“I try to avoid looking forward or backward and try to keep looking upward.” ~ Charlotte Bronte

best friends forever?

Our daughter, Emily, graduated from Baylor this weekend. And while everything seems to be changing so fast ~ I was reminded some things never change.

All weekend, I kept thinking … I can’t believe this precious child is graduating from college. Life is moving so fast.

The once strong-willed-wild-child is now a young lady. [Read more...]

ten things I learned from my mother

My husband, Will, posted yesterday about the top ten things he learned from his mom. I love his list. And I decided that it’s the perfect way to celebrate my sweet mom for Mother’s Day.

Gratefully, my mom is still around setting a great example for me, my sister and brother, and a boatload of grandkids. This list is just a drop in the sea of Mimi goodness but here goes.

When Life Stinks

Chocolate Banana Pancakes

My youngest daughter had a birthday recently ~ so that calls for a special breakfast. I found a recipe for Cocoa Buttermilk Pancakes and decided to give it a try. They were delish, so I thought I’d share in this loosely haiku-ed post. Because pancakes are so poetic, of course. ;)

how to love your life & celebrate

For a couple years now, I’ve said that when I grow up … I want to be just like my niece, Kate. She’s a photographer with this amazing way of looking at life through her lens.

Kate has a good eye. [Read more...]

Dr Pepper Cupcakes

So grateful to Ronne for sharing her Dr Pepper cupcake recipe. These little darlings remind me of our family favorite chocolate cinnamon sheet cake but they’re lighter and most certainly less caloric. ;)

Now, I might not be a Texan by birth, but after spending summers here as a kid and living here more than two decades, I feel like one. And I certainly have a Texas-bred addiction. Dr Pepper.

And Dr Pepper cupcakes …

bohemian rhapsody dad: favorites friday

This one made me smile.  A lot.

Check out this video of a dad who plays the Queen classic while driving his kids to school every morning.

They all know the song. The dad sings along. And the obvious, dad is driving his kiddos to school.

Now, that’s a good man.

happy friday!

the 911 prayer

Confessions: I am pitiful at remembering where verses are in the Bible. I grew up Baptist but missed the whole bible drill thing.  Must have been down the hall scribbling notes on attendance cards and eating sweet tarts. My husband, on the other hand, is ridiculously skilled. He is so good at remembering verses and addresses that I am an eensy bit co-dependent on his ability. It’s not-so-good.

So every once in a while, when an important verse like this comes around with an easy to remember address, I am so appreciative. Check out Psalm 91:11 …
