A Few Favorite Things …

Confessions … once I fall in love with something, I get completely manic about it.*

I talk about it, share it, and hope the whole human race will enjoy it just as much as I do.  So when I read about the good goings on over at Nesting Place … I was all in. I love sharing my favorites ~ and actually have a Favorite Things category where I share the stuff I love.  For today’s ‘favorite things’ linky party, I pulled a few things from my amazon favorites. Wouldn’t mind any of these showing up in my stocking!

Candles. I have lots of favorites. But this candle is so divine. And this candle is hard to find. I met this candle in Waco, Texas at Roots. Roots is a favorite thing. Emily loves Roots and I love Emily. [Read more...]

Fearless :: simple thanksgiving

Fear never wrote a symphony or poem, negotiated a peace treaty, or cured a disease. Fear never pulled a family out of poverty or a country out of bigotry. Fear never saved a marriage or a business.

… scented candle addiction?

It’s my mom’s birthday today. Happy birthday, Mom!!!! I love you! (Super cute picture of her here … )

I had no idea what to get her for her birthday. Not that she’s difficult to buy for … it’s just that I’ve already bought her every candle I love. And the truth is, she doesn’t love candles quite as much as I do.

I don’t know many people that love candles as much as me. People that are so completely addicted to scented candles that they have them stashed in closets in case of shortage. People who sniff candles the way an addict snorts cocaine. It’s sort of a cult ~ us candle stashers and sniffers.

I could name names to prove that I am not the only one so completely addicted (Robin, Kristi, Emily, Hilliary …) but that would be wrong.

So anyway, I got my mom these cute earrings. She loved them. (We celebrated last night.)

Chicken and Egg :: Dog and Yard

When I love something ~ whether it’s a new scented candle or Le Pens ~ I get pretty excited about it. Little things make me happy.  Hoping some of my ‘Favorites’ make you happy too. :)

Not so long ago, my childhood friend Corbi, introduced me to chickens living in her suburban backyard. She had 4 chickens but one was a rooster (quite by accident ~ apparently it’s hard to determine the sex of a baby chick until they grow up and wreck your relationship with the neighbors by crowing at dawn). She gave the rooster to a real farmer ~ and kept the hens in her backyard. Ever since then, I’ve always dreamed of having fancy hens in my backyard like this:

But my husband, Will, said no. Because we already have something in our backyard ~ her name is Mary Spoon. She owns our backyard, And Will thinks she might take offense if we filled her yard with hens. He thinks she might be so offended ~ that she’d murder them. [Read more...]

Pen + Cups = Pen Cups

Sometimes it takes a non-family member to undercover your weirdness.

Case in point: This last summer we had Emily’s friend, Hilliary, living with us. She was an intern at  ACF and needed a place to lay her head. Hang her shirts. Park her VW bug. So for the summer, that place was the Davis house.

It was a fun summer. It was a crazy summer. And it was a revealing summer.

Sometime in early June, Hilliary pointed out that I loved pens. And cups. Pen cups.

H: You really love colored pens. And cups. You have pen cups all over your house.

Me: Hmm … yes, I do. But doesn’t everyone?

H: Um … I don’t think as many as you do. (Laughs nervously, pondering offense.)

Me: Oh, well. That’s kinda sad if you ask me.

H: (Laughs) Yes.

After the pen altercation conversation, I looked around my house. And yes, I have an enormous collection of pen cups. There are pen cups in every room. Sometimes multiples. All filled with my favorite colored pens.*

Let me show you.

The Good News Team

Yesterday, I talked about how I gave God a yes to ministry when I was 18 years old. And I talked about how I had no idea where that would take me. The yes has involved founding a church, speaking, authoring books, being on the radio and writing this blog.

God has taken me all over the place. And asked me to do things that I never thought possible ~ and plenty of stuff that I’m not ‘qualified’ to do. He’s like that, yes?

But the one thing I know that makes things work in God’s economy ~ and the thing that makes doing His work so much more fun ~ is doing it in team.Which brings me to this happy moment …

Meet the Good News Team!
