Feed my lambs. That’s what Jesus told Peter.
I love that passage so much that last month, I had Kelly Ann paint it for me on this fabulous gray weathered wood so that I could remember what God wants of me.

Because Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.
Because I adore Valentine’s Day.
And because I love pizza … here is my recipe for mini margarita heart-shaped pizza!

This recipe is a family favorite. I first posted it here. It’s so easy and I love that you can adapt it for fun things like Valentine’s. :) [Read more...]
Roxanne is at it again! More happy times and happy hour reviews. This week, it’s a little getaway treat in Lakeway … just minutes from Austin.
I ventured out of downtown Austin for this week’s happy hour excursion. There are so many great Austin eateries but sometimes the happy hour destination is all about meeting your friends where it’s convenient for them. For me, that meant Lakeway – for a little girl time with my friend, Jaime.
Jaime, the Queen of Point of Origin (if you’ve never been there, make a trip asap!), doesn’t often have the opportunity to venture out of the Lakeway bubble, so I gladly headed her way … that’s what friends do, right? [Read more...]
If you haven’t had a chance to ‘meet the team’ yet … allow me introduce Roxanne. She’ll be sharing happy hour spots all over Austin.
I don’t know about you, but a happy hour with the girls at a new place always makes me feel a little fantastic. There is great energy around being the first to try new place. It is like a mini-girls trip in town or a Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte moment, Austin-style.
{No website just yet. I got this photo from their FB page … you’ll want to like them!}
If you are overdue for a taste of new ~ good news! You are just in time to be the first to try Sully’s Side Bar. Opening today in the grand city of Austin, Sully’s is a new concept by the creators of Sullivan’s. Rather than a steakhouse, Sully’s has a more relaxed feel and a Mexican flavor. Located downtown next to Sullivan’s in the heart of the Warehouse district, Sully’s even has sliding glass doors for porch seating once the weather permits. [Read more...]

Happy hour is less about the drinks and more about the companionship. Over happy hour my dearest friends and I have started new businesses, purged bad boyfriends, shed necessary tears and saved the world from danger many times over. Sound familiar? Austin has infinite locales for the ever-important happy hour and I’m happy to take you on a tour.
First stop: Tacos & Tequila aka TNT

No joke! That is the name of the place—and yes, they serve a variety of Tacos and Tequila. Imagine a clean early 70s vibe with an open kitchen and a 360 bar. Expect to see an ‘about Austin’ video feed projected on the walls to music that is often spun by a DJ.
Two times you MUST visit TNT: [Read more...]
I hope you’re getting away some time this summer. Just anywhere that will get your attention.
We are at the tail end of some vacation time in Estes Park with family – including the patriarch of the Davis side – the ‘real’ Will Davis. Pictured here with his son (my husband), Will Davis, Jr.

Delight.
We’ve been eating lots of deliciousness. (Check out these cheese grits … ) [Read more...]
Last night, we had a fabulous, little happy hour at my house. Just a few of the 20-something-year-old girl cousins … and me. Lucky me. See, when you host a happy hour at your house – you get to attend – even if you’re not a 20-something-year-old girl.

As always, I tossed my ‘Big God Questions’ out on the table. Stuff like:
What does God want from you at this time in your life? What are the 4 things you need in your life to stay balanced and happy and loveable? And if you could only watch one TV show for a whole month, only one, what would it be? (So maybe this isn’t a BGQ, but it’s fun anyhow …)
The question that generated the most conversation (and delight) was: What are the 4 things in your life you need to stay balanced and happy? (I got the idea from a post here.)
They listed things like:
Quiet time in the morning with God and coffee* Time outside at the barn, at the lake, or jogging * Sunlight. All kinds. Especially dappled. * Music * A place that’s clean and organized.*Being with people * Time alone
I love these girls.
I think it’s so important to know what things we need in life to be sane and balanced and happy. Sure, life isn’t always sane and balanced and you still gotta get and give some happy. But when you’re aware of your personality and the optimum life patterns – it makes it easier to be loveable. And to love. Which I think is part of God’s design for our lives. Yes?
So today since it’s likely that you’re still sitting in your pj’s sipping coffee and not at work (Happy 4th of July by the way!!) you probably have a little extra time this morning … maybe even an hour. One little, happy hour all to yourself. To think. And ask yourself BGQ.
What are the things you need in your life. To stay balanced. And happy … and loveable?
Just posting this cause I can.

That’s what I love about a blog.
No editor here telling me that this post doesn’t make sense. {bloglove}
This is my Emily – all beautiful at her cousin’s wedding. She’s 21. I wrote about her here and every time I read it, I still cry.
Do you remember 21? I do. But just barely.
For those taking notes on the randomness, you should probably know that I’m sipping wine and enjoying a handful of Fritos – which is my new at home-happy-hour-habit. I realize it’s not uber cool or particularly healthy but there is no chef or dietician here either.
Home is so nice. No editors or chefs or dieticians. Just me with my Fritos & wine and a gorgeous memory.
I know nothing about wine except that I know I love it. I am a newbie. Eager but uneducated. So this week, my 21 year old daughter and I went to a wine tasting class presented by a vineyard owner.
I had expectations that I would learn something about wine. The course description had words like: Casual. Pairings. Stuff like that. So I figured – this is good and basic. I”ll get practical information.

When we arrived, they were running late. We stood in line a bit waiting while the staff hurried around getting food on the tables. When we walked in, I realized there were no chairs; instead, the attendees (about 30 of us) were all standing around. It was confusing: Should we eat the food sitting out or wait? Approach the wine table or wait?
Finally, someone spoke up and introduced the esteemed vineyard owner. We were instructed to approach the table (where he was with the wine) and sample one of four wines presented.
So we did. As did everyone else. But it was kind of chaotic. People were milling around talking. Walking from one room to another sampling bread, cheese and whatnot. When I looked around, everybody seemed at ease with the situation. Like they’d done it before. Except me and my daughter. As I said, eager and uneducated … probably written big and bold across our perplexed foreheads.
The class was a 2 hour event – but we ducked out after 30 minutes. And I’m sad to confess: We didn’t learn anything about wine.
As a church founder and pastor’s wife, that got me thinking:
How often do folks brave walking into church for the first time – eager and uneducated – seeking God?
And how often do they leave – perplexed and discouraged – wondering if they’ll ever feel a part?
Simple pairings speak best:
A smile and a handshake.
A program and a chair.
And most of all, communication that is everyday easy. And relevant.
