Love Austin: Arthouse

Our Austiny Kate. Where has she been? Busy. Photo shoots, mission trips, nesting in a new office on the east side. You name it. But she’s back with a little arty insight.

While I was waiting for a photo shoot downtown, I stared at this building wishing I could just open the glass doors and follow the lines leading me in …

I love how Austin loves art and artists. I love these spaces. And I’d love to check out this exhibition.

{AMOA-Arthouse originates and presents year-round a schedule of contemporary art exhibitions featuring emerging and mid-career artists from across the globe.}

Favorites Friday :: Straws & Roses

My parents were green when green wasn’t cool. My dad is a tree hugger from way back. He planted trees all over Austin without permission in the 70′s … including a baby cottonwood in front of Murchison that ended up being part of a big ole God story for me. More on that later.

And my mom, why she had these coolio sterling straws for us growing up. The eco-kind Oprah likes. I don’t know where my mom got them. Probably in Acapulco. That was a fun thing to do in the 60′s and 70′s.  All I do know is that they are a serious favorite of mine. So much so that I have a whole collection of faux sterling straws. (Stainless straws.) Not nearly as neat as the Acapulco sterling straws.

I had originally planned on talking about my favorite roses. [Read more...]

Love Austin: docks & bridges

One of the reasons I love Kate is that she is completely addicted to the sunshine in Austin. So of course, I can count on her to find all the hidden outdoor arty parts of the city.

I love the random docks you can find in Austin. I stumble on a new one all the time.

And the bridges, too. All over the place. This particular bridge on Town Lake has the most charming blue feet stamped across it. [Read more...]

Love Austin: Rock Island

One of the great things about Austin is the weather. Here we are in the dead of winter, still sitting outside and enjoying the weather. I love that about Austin. So does Kate …

This is one of my favorite spots in Austin to sit and watch and think and read and stare at clouds. I love the grass – such a deep green and such a contrast to the sandy skyline in view.

While most parts of the country are starting to experience that stay-in-doors kind of weather (not my favorite), I am so happy to live in Austin and still be able to get outside.

Love Austin: Frank

Have you had a chance to ‘meet the team?‘ Kate is posting images of Austin: The people, places and locales that just say, ‘Austin.’  This week, it’s Frank/ATX

I stumbled up on this beautiful sign on my way to a happy hour with friends and the word ‘coffee’ immediately caught my eye. I love the type and colors– white brick and creamy orange.

Maybe make it next week’s dinner or coffee stop? I’m okay with combining waffle fries and coffee.
