Love Austin: Arthouse

 Our Austiny Kate. Where has she been? Busy. Photo shoots, mission trips, nesting in a new office on the east side. You name it. But she’s back with a little arty insight.

While I was waiting for a photo shoot downtown, I stared at this building wishing I could just open the glass doors and follow the lines leading me in …

I love how Austin loves art and artists. I love these spaces. And I’d love to check out this exhibition.

{AMOA-Arthouse originates and presents year-round a schedule of contemporary art exhibitions featuring emerging and mid-career artists from across the globe.}

Love Austin: docks & bridges

One of the reasons I love Kate is that she is completely addicted to the sunshine in Austin. So of course, I can count on her to find all the hidden outdoor arty parts of the city.

I love the random docks you can find in Austin. I stumble on a new one all the time.

And the bridges, too. All over the place. This particular bridge on Town Lake has the most charming blue feet stamped across it. [Read more…]

Love Austin: Rock Island

One of the great things about Austin is the weather. Here we are in the dead of winter, still sitting outside and enjoying the weather. I love that about Austin. So does Kate …

This is one of my favorite spots in Austin to sit and watch and think and read and stare at clouds. I love the grass – such a deep green and such a contrast to the sandy skyline in view.

Love Austin: Autumn

Autumn in Austin equals afternoons that are perfect for picnics ~ and Kate captured it. This just makes me want to kick my shoes off and head outside to savor the beauty of fall in the city I love.

While most parts of the country are starting to experience that stay-in-doors kind of weather (not my favorite), I am so happy to live in Austin and still be able to get outside.

Love Austin: Barton Creek Greenbelt

Cool, little Kate really knows the greenbelt ~ it’s in her backyard. So she has the perfect voice and eye to capture it’s Austin awesomeness.

Ropes and Nalgenes and climbing shoes.

Rock formations that blow your mind… how exactly do all those little holes in the rocks form and make such an amazing pattern? [Read more…]

Happy Hour Austin: Mizu {Lakeway}

Roxanne is at it again! More happy times and happy hour reviews. This week, it’s a little getaway treat in Lakeway … just minutes from Austin.

I ventured out of downtown Austin for this week’s happy hour excursion. There are so many great Austin eateries but sometimes the happy hour destination is all about meeting your friends where it’s convenient for them. For me, that meant Lakeway – for a little girl time with my friend, Jaime.

Jaime, the Queen of Point of Origin (if you’ve never been there, make a trip asap!), doesn’t often have the opportunity to venture out of the Lakeway bubble, so I gladly headed her way … that’s what friends do, right? [Read more…]

Love Austin: Lake Austin

I can’t help it. When Kate captures Austin through her lens … I fall in love with this town all over again.

Lake Austin. No words needed.

This place is a staple of all Austin outdoor life and love of water. I love even the way it smells — is that weird? [Read more…]

Good News Austin: Breakfast Dives & Weekend Fun

One of my favorite things to do when the kids were little was to load them up in the car on a Saturday morning ~ still in their pj’s ~ and head out to get hot delicious donuts at ‘historic’ Round Rock Donuts. Click & listen:
