Honey Butter

I shared the most delicious Amish White Bread recipe recently ~ and I honestly thought nothing could top it. But I was wrong. This …

honey butter with cinnamonThis tops the bread. In the most delicious way. It’s honey butter, y’all. With just a little bit of cinnamon. It’s sweet and slightly salty. An amazing melty wonder on freshly baked bread. Or toasted bread. My oh my. You gotta try it. [Read more...]

chicken tabbouleh to go

Good morning … it’s the weekend. And hopefully you’re just waking up, slowly sipping coffee and looking forward to a lazy Saturday. Okay, but who am I fooling? It’s the first Saturday in May. And if you’ve got kids, May is crazy busy.

And that’s why I’m sharing this super easy chicken tabbouleh to go.

chicken tabbouleh to go{love these weck jars ~ also good for pie making!}

Only takes about about 30 minutes to prep this fresh, light meal ~ and then you can pack it up in jar, pop it in the fridge, and you’ve got a great grab and go meal. [Read more...]

Bread & Wine :: happy hour & giveaway!

Jami brought peonies and jasmine and champagne. And everyone brought a favorite bottle of wine.

peonies and tumblerThis little happy hour idea started weeks ago. As a way to celebrate Shauna Niequist’s new book Bread & Wine, test some new recipes and gather friends ~ new and old. My friend, Jen, and I landed on a date that would work for both our busy schedules. Then we each invited 10 friends ~ and texted back and forth til we landed on the perfect menu. [Read more...]

Soda Pop Pork

Oh, y’all. Do you ever have one of those weeks? This was for me. Sunday to Sunday packed with beautiful and terrible ~ it took it’s toll on me. Doesn’t real life do that sometimes? I’m entirely grateful my friend, Ronne, came to the rescue with this delicious BBQ post for 52 Sunday Suppers.

At our home, you can be certain of two things: 1) cantaloupe will always be served with salt and pepper (it’s a Southern thing that’s been passed down at least four generations), and 2) great meals with friends and family will always include meat (it’s a Texas thing that makes my husband smile).

soda pop porkNow before you worry too much about the marriage of Pepsi and pork, let’s praise the virtues of soda pop in recipes.  Like Dr. Pepper Cupcakes  and Seven-Up Biscuits. Mmmm.

shauna’s caesar salad

This is really Brannon’s Caesar Salad. That’s what Shauna says in her new book, Bread & Wine.

But every time I made this simple, delicious salad this week, I’ve called it Shauna’s Caesar Salad.

And I’ve made the dressing a lot this week … served the salad about six times. It’s just that good!

So I’ve called it Shauna’s Caesar Salad all week. And it stuck. I hope Brannon doesn’t mind. [Read more...]

Amish White Bread Recipe

My dad loves homemade bread. In particular, he loves a sourdough bread recipe my friend, Kate, shared with me years ago. It’s dense and sweet and wonderful toasted. But I have to be honest, it’s a little high maintenance. Remembering to feed the starter and then dealing with the sticky dough ~ well, I fell down on the job. I’m just no good at high maintenance starters.

But I love making bread. And dad (and the rest of my family) loves eating it. So for my dad’s birthday last week, I decided to find a new white bread recipe.

Oh, y’all. I fell in love. It’s delicious, easy and low maintenance. So crazy simple, I just keep making it. [Read more...]

Homemade French Bread Recipe {with video}

Because it finally rained in Austin.

And because bread making is spectacular in rainy weather.

And because, my friends, there is nothing nicer you could do for your friends and family than sharing a warm, homemade loaf of bread …

I’m sharing this video again.

Easter Brunch

Easter matches Christmas in intensity around our house. It’s a super busy weekend. Matter of fact, Will just walked out the door for his first of seven church services. So in honesty, we won’t have brunch on Easter. Not doable. At all. So I dreamed this brunch up with you in mind.

I also served it up on Thursday night for Emily’s high school small group. [Read more...]

Spinach Chicken Enchiladas

When my friend, Kristin, and I started 52 Sunday Suppers, our whole goal was to provide easy, delicious meal ideas to inspire you to invite family and friends to the table. To ignite a revival of the Sunday Supper. That one day of the week, when you sit down and slow down long enough to savor good food, engage in deep conversation and appreciate God’s blessings in your life.

This enchilada recipe is my friend, Roe Sharon’s. And it’s perfect for your Sunday Supper because it’s easy and delicious. But there are a couple things you should know about it … [Read more...]

Irish Soda Bread (& Herb Rubbed Brisket)

One of the things I love most about 52 Sunday Suppers is the collaboration. Not only is my friend, Kristin, helping me stick with the idea behind 52 Sunday Suppers in inviting more folks to the table, but our brainstorming sessions are stretching me outside my comfort zone in menu planning.

This week, Kristin and I decided to try something festive and fun to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. To aid in authenticity, we enlisted the help of our new friend, Rachel Gaffney. Rachel’s the real deal, y’all. She grew up in Ireland so she’s  the perfect person if you’re interested in creating an authentic Irish feast.

It all starts with Irish Soda Bread: a simple, dense (and really healthy) brown bread. Rachel’s recipe is an adaptation of her mother’s recipe. [Read more...]
