Things I Learned about You :: 31 Days of Simple Thanksgiving

Well, here we are at the end of 31 days of simple thanksgiving. I want to thank Nester for coming up with such a brilliant idea and being such a charming hostess.

I learned a lot about me this month but much more interesting is what I learned about you. I looked at the top posts in this series over the last month and found out that …

you like messy stuff. :)

Messy Mondays, messy (amazing) mac & cheese and my messy 80′s mother/daughter portrait. [Read more...]

Greek Lunch :: simple thanksgiving

This is one of the important things I learned at bible study this week: “Fear sucks the life out of the soul … and drains us dry of contentment.”

This is another one of the important things I learned at bible study this week: Roxann has an endless supply of delicious recipes and lunch menu plans. This week, she shared a simple Greek lunch.

Love Feast :: simple thanksgiving

Every once in a while, I experience it. Yesterday it pounced on me. Unexpected.

I was driving on the Pennybacker Bridge ~ and I glanced out at the glory of Lake Austin. I was overwhelmed by the beauty. The sun was midway in the sky … a delicate fog across the water.

A wave of wonder washed over me: Why did God make everything so beautiful? The lake, the trees, the big blue sky … ?

Then the sun touched my cheek through my window. Tears sprung to my eyes. And it’s then that I wondered aloud: Why did You make everything so beautiful?

The very next thought that flooded my mind was this: If you were the only person on earth, I would have painted it just as pretty.

And then I cried. Because it’s true.

You’ve heard it said by many preachers, “If you were the only person on earth, God would have send His son to die for you.” And that is true. It is also true that if you were the only person on earth, God would have painted the world as pretty ~ just for you.

I really hope you can picture that.

Creation is a love feast ~  set just for you.

A Healthy Soul :: simple thanksgiving

“Some people are substituting ‘Turkey Day’ for Thanksgiving. I think it must be because they are not aware there is anybody to thank, and the most important thing about the holiday is food.  Christians know there is Somebody to thank, but often when we make a list of things to thank Him for we include only the things we like.

We are meant to ‘give thanks in everything …’

Thanksgiving is a spiritual exercise, necessary to the building of a healthy soul. It takes us out of the stuffiness of ourselves into the fresh breeze and sunlight of the will of God.”

Zinger Tea :: simple thanksgiving

I am in love.

With Ina’s amazing herbal tea + apple juice. Simple, healthy and addictive.

Steep 4 Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger tea bags  and 4 Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger tea bags  in 4 cups boiling water for 10 minutes. Add 4 cups pure apple juice (pure apple juice is super important to the taste. I used Martinelli’s.)

The only thing that could possibly make this tea more delicious … is my sister’s Sonic ice. ;)

Dreamsicle Cupcakes with Citrus Buttercream :: simple thanksgiving

I had a vintage picnic yesterday for my daughter, Sara, and a few of her friends. Ronne kindly offered to bake up her Dreamsicle Cupcakes. Because they just happen to be my daughter’s  favorite. Simple thanks for good friends like Ronne …

What’s not to love about Sara Davis? She’s always smiling, always encouraging – and she has a bit of wandering gypsy in her soul that makes her soar through life with the biggest of big God dreams. When Susie asked me to be part of Sara’s special vintage picnic, I knew just what I would bring, because they make me think of Sara every time I make them: Sunny orange-kissed Dreamsicle Cupcakes with Citrus Buttercream.
