Kris Camealy | Dear Daughters 41

Kris Camealy is a fellow table person and writer living in a cozy rural community outside of Columbus, Ohio with her husband and four kids. In addition to homeschooling their kids and trying to figure out the trick to the prettiest pie crust, she also writes online, is the founder & editor-in-chief of the beautiful hospitality site Grace Table.
I loved getting to talk hospitality with her today. Can’t wait for you to meet Kris! Here’s the interview on Dear Daughters Episode 41.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

What does it actually look like to love your neighbor in real time?

It’s like God was saying to me, ‘There is a lot of variety at My table, and it’s not up to you who sits there.’ I don’t get to determine what His table looks like. My job as a believer and someone who loves Him is to set a table and let Him choose who comes to the table. ~ Kris Camealy

We try so hard to hear God, and really it just happens when we’re doing the beautiful everyday things like cooking for our family. ~ Susie Davis

The best stuff comes a little bit slower sometimes, and we need room to be inspired. We need room to think, we need room to meditate and pray and really listen for the Lord. ~ Kris Camealy

Kris’s next step after receiving a holy nudge:  Be willing to say yes to God.

If you feel like God is calling you to something specific and you have a picture of that, God will give you just what you need.~ Kris Camealy

If God’s given you a vision for something, you just take the very next step. Another word for that is obedience. ~ Kris Camealy

If you understand how God put your spouse, your kids or your co-workers together, (and how He made you!) it makes for a much easier relationship with people. ~ Susie Davis

Take the pressure out of having people over: Co-host dinner with another friend.

With family holidays, there can be a lot of expectation for everything to be cozy, but maybe it’s more crazy than cozy. ~ Susie Davis

When you make it less formal, everybody gets to relax. ~ Susie Davis

Some of Kris’s sample ‘dive deep’ questions: What was the best thing that happened in your world this week? What’s something that was hard for you this week? What’s something that you enjoy? Is there anything that you’re struggling with?

People want to talk about their lives, and they want to dive deep. Even if it’s a little bit awkward for them when you ask something that might require a personal response, they’re glad when they leave. They feel full. ~ Susie Davis
