on being a spiritual mama

Five things you might not know about me…

  1. I love being a mom. It’s my favorite thing in the whole world.
  2. I have three kids: Will (29), Emily (26) and Sara (23). They are my joy.
  3. I have a daughter-in-law, Amy. I have a son-in-law, Kenton. And I will have another son-in-law, David, in six short months. I love these kids wholeheartedly. I pray for them fervently. I think of them as my own.
  4. And I have dozens of ‘dear daughters’ … girls that God has brought my way to ‘spiritually mother.‘ I write to them regularly here. And I talked about it in a message recently at Austin Christian Fellowship.  Here’s a short clip from that message.

(see the entire message here)

I truly believe it is our responsibility as Christian women to spiritually mother the people God brings our way. My deepest wish is that every young woman could have a spiritual mama. Someone a little older and a little wiser to guide her through various seasons of life. Ideally that someone would be her very own mother but that’s not always the way things work.

So I’m praying through how in the world to encourage older women to step up and become available. And I’m hoping younger women will be brave enough to literally just ask for mentor mothering. Then I’m asking for our very BIG God to make a way to connect these spiritual mamas with ‘dear daughters.’

That’s where my heart is right now. Where’s your heart in the mix?

xoxo,

Mama Suz
